Q&A with Andover Central’s Gretta Stover – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by WSU Tech

VYPE got to sit down with Andover Central Volleyball’s Gretta Stover and find out more about who she is.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

I want to have the best senior year I can and work as hard as I can in all aspects of my life and Improve as much as I can. (School, sports, and work)

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

The most fun I have had is the success with volleyball and soccer the past year. Not just winning games but the things we had to do to prepare to win and the work we had to put in. Also getting close with both my teams was so fun. I hope to continue that this year and show the younger classes how good chemistry leads to success.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

My favorite teacher is Stana Jefferson. She is the weights and chemistry teacher. She doesn’t only teach the correct form for lifting and how to do chemistry, but she teaches you life lessons and how to be a good person. She treats you like an adult and lets you have freedom. It’s very easy to get on her good side but it is also easy to get on her bad side. I have been on both sides in the past 4 years. She is a great leader and great friend to go to if you need help with anything!

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory by far is when we earned the ticket to state volleyball with the best team I have ever been on. It was not only a very talented team, but we were all best friends, which made our success even sweeter. We hung out every weekend and even after season we would make sure to get together. It was a great experience overall. Coach Weidert was all in, just as we were, which made all the difference.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Allie Paulson is one of the most impactful people on the court. She helped my game so much by being straight up with me when I needed it. Not everyone is able to take her criticism and toughness but that was exactly what I needed last year. She has been able to pull me out of situations that weren’t so good and she wasn’t scared to say what needed to be said. She was also our biggest cheerleader. She will get so hype for you and make you feel like you’re an all star.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part of being on the Andover Central Volleyball team is not only playing volleyball, but the culture and the friendships I have made from it. There are not many teams that get to have the coach that we do. That’s the reason we have such a great culture. She plans activities and things to do during the season which bring us closer. She doesn’t just do good things inside of volleyball but she will come to your basketball games and soccer games to take pictures or support you. She also encourages us to go watch our friends and support our teams, which creates great culture throughout the school.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

My summer vacation would be to travel around Europe. I would bring my mom and my cat Ivy if I could. I love the food and everything looks so beautiful.

VYPE: If we gave you $1,000 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

I would spend it on new soccer cleats, new clothes for me and my mom, new toys for my cat, and then save the rest if I have any left!

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

I am involved in CAPS Engineering program (Center for Advanced Professional Studies) which allows me to create projects that help the schools, neighborhoods and small businesses around the district at a low cost.
