Rose Hill’s Kimberlin Lovell – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by WSU Tech

Rose Hill cross country star Kimberlin Lovell has already broken her school’s record in the 5k so far this season, but she isn’t satisfied with that accomplishment. Asked about her goals, she emphasized, “I want to keep working hard to break it even more and keep putting in all the hard work to further that record.” In addition to that goal, Lovell has a specific time in mind.

“I would love to drop my 5k time to the 19’s, which would be a huge accomplishment for me,” she said, mentioning that she was “close to my 19 minute 5k time.”

Lovell doesn’t just love running cross country, as she mentioned when asked about her offseason training regimen: “In my offseason training, I usually take a couple weeks after State Track to recover before I start training again. I love to run road races and be able to still feel competition in different aspects without it just being teenagers and other schools.”

Running is also a family affair for Kimberlin, as she stated, “My mom really helps me out with that whenever she asks if I want to go on a long run with her and her running friends. They really encourage me to keep running and get better.”

After high school, Lovell plans to continue to run, mentioning Evangel University as a potential landing spot due to their running program. As for her major, she’s leaving it open, but said, “I am not quite sure what I would major in, but am leaning towards Communications and Journalism or maybe something with sports and athletic training.”
