Andover Girls Golf Spotlight Presented By Mike Garman, Farm Bureau

By Blake Chadwick

Being the head boys and girls golf coach for 22 years now, coach Ryan Harshaw has seen some really great teams, and for the girl’s golf team, this year could be really special.

Harshaw makes sure to instill a sense of passion and caring within his players who come through the program.

“I just try to keep my players in the right mindset because I want them to care and to be a little hard on themselves, but there’s also a fine line of being too hard on themselves,” Harshaw said.

With golf being such an up-and-down sport, the mindset of his teams is what makes them special.

“In golf, you have to have a short memory,” Harshaw said. “Golf is difficult, and they can’t waste all their energy on previous mistakes. They have to understand and know how to put all their focus and positive energy into the next shot. Players with a bad attitude that are not in a good place mentally will turn a decent round of golf into a bad round of golf more times than not.”

The Trojans set the bar high every year when it comes to team goals of winning their league title, qualifying for state, and ultimately placing at state.

Andover’s star, sophomore Regan Dusenberry, has been leading the team one step closer to those goals all year.

Dusenberry is coming off a season where she won six tournaments, placed first in the league, and placed sixth at state. Now, the sophomore has continued her winning ways with a scoring average of 70.7.
