Q&A with Andover Central’s Jackson Lee – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Mike Garman Farm Bureau

By Ken Hansard

Recently, VYPE had the privilege to talk to and to find out more about Andover Central High School senior athlete Jackson Lee.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

Lee: My goal this year has been set since the beginning of the year. Break the 200 freestyle 5-1a record, which is 1:39.92. I also have the goal of winning both my events at state, most likely the 200 and 100 freestyle.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

Lee: The most fun I had this year was hanging out with all my older friends who came back from college in the summer. We used to be really close. They all left for school, but when they came back, it was like nothing had changed. Shout out to all my Wichita Swim Club boys.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

Lee: My favorite teacher is from fourth grade, Mrs. Burrus. We would always talk swimming, and later, I became friends with her son, who is also named Jackson.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

Lee: My favorite athletic memory is when our 200 medley relay won state my freshman year, and we were encouraged that we could win. Then we continued to perform extremely well and ended up winning the meet.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Lee: The teammate who left the biggest impact on me actually didn’t go to my high school. Adam Sandid and I swam together for the majority of my high school career on our club team, the Wichita Swim Club. He was always there to push me and make me faster. Even now that he’s gone away to college, I’m still getting pushed by his 200 free record.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

Lee: I really enjoy the suburban rides with my friend, Tyler Voros, a sophomore, and just blessing our ears with beautiful songs on the aux.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

Lee: Either I would take a boys’ trip on a cruise with some of my close friends around the Mexico area, or I would take my girlfriend on a trip to the Bahamas.

VYPE: If we gave you $5000 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, how would you spend it?

Lee: I would take that money and invest it in my shoe business. That would look like cashing out as many people as I could in order to build up a bigger inventory.

VYPE: What other sports, activities, or community service projects do you participate in, and how have these helped to prepare you for the future?

Lee: I participated in tennis last year, and that honestly influenced my mental strength a lot more than I thought it would. It helped me realize that I just need to forget and move past my mistakes and keep moving forward.
