The Andover Trojans suffered a crushing loss in extra innings to Great Bend in the regional finals to end last season. Middle infielder / pitcher Drew Torgerson and his teammates have been forced to stomach that loss for nine months and are now ready to get rid of that taste of defeat. Torgerson says, “I have been itching to get back on the field for another run. I am looking forward to being a senior leader and having a positive impact on my teammates and coaches.”
Torgerson wants to scratch that itch by gunning for some lofty goals. “We want to win a league championship, regional championship, and state championship. After coming up one out short of making it to state last year, all that is on my mind is to continue where we left off.”
Torgerson embraces his role as a senior, and he is willing to fill any role in the lineup, “I see myself as the leader of this team. Successful teams are never coach led, but player led. It is important to lead by example.”
After dealing with several injuries over his first two seasons, Torgerson made it a point to work on preventative maintenance during the off-season, “I’ve hit the weight room hard and also competed in swimming this winter, so I’ve improved my strength and endurance.”
Torgerson has been named to the second team All-League Team (AVCTL Division II) as a second baseman and was additionally named honorable mention as a utility player. In addition to baseball and swimming, Torgerson has also competed in football and basketball for the Trojans. Drew is also active in the YoungLife program.
Drew plans to attend Kansas State University and major in Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology.
